Frequently asked questions

What training methods do you use?

We use force free training methods with a focus on positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement means rewarding our dog for doing a behaviour we want to encourage. The proven effectiveness of this method of training is based on contemporary scientific research. In addition to being more effective than alternative punishment based methods, positive reinforcement training develops strong bonds and trust between dog and handler. We don’t use methods that cause fear, pain or intimidation.

What breeds of dogs do you work with?

We work with herding breed dogs. Most often in  Australia these are border collies, kelpies, cattle dogs, koolies and Australian shepherds. These dogs often have many characteristics in common, such as sensitivity to visual and aural stimuli, a desire to work with their handlers, and instinctive herding behaviours such as the desire to control movement. We incorporate these characteristics into individual training programs to meet each dog’s particular needs.

Do you offer sheep herding classes?

Sheep herding opportunities are only offered to current clients already attending classes or private sessions.

Where do you do your training?

One on one sessions and classes are held on a private rural property called Melrose Valley, at 174 Old Tuggeranong Road, Tuggeranong. https://maps.app.goo.gl/rj36d4HaAUF7cYWp7. Access is through a gate at the entrance to Old Tuggeranong Road, opposite the Delta Force Paintball car park.

Do you offer in-home consultations

In-home consultations are offered on a very limited basis and only in the Tuggeranong area.

What times do you run private sessions and classes

One on one sessions are offered on week days between 9am and 4pm. In winter these sessions may also be offered during evening hours. Group classes are run on week day evenings.

What is your refund policy?

We provide refunds only in accordance with the Australian Consumer Law. That means there are no refunds if you change your mind after you enrol in a class or book an appointment with us, and no refunds if you are unable to attend part or all of the course due to illness or a scheduling clash.
